Chris Wilder and Northampton staff lead calls for chairman to sell troubled club

Northampton officials have issued a passionate plea to chairman David Cardoza to sell the club.

Players and staff at the Sky Bet League Two side are not getting paid and the club have been issued with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue and Customs.

Emotional manager Chris Wilder said the doubt over Town's future was "tearing us all apart", while a statement on Northampton's official Facebook page urged Cardoza to "stop playing with our club".

Northampton won 2-1 at Notts County on Saturday to sit third in the table, and after the win Wilder said: " I know there is a deal to be done that will take this club forward.

"That deal is on the table now, we are playing with people's livelihoods here and that deal has got to be done.

"What's happened over the last few months is a complete shambles, from different people and different organisations and I just can't understand what is going off at this football club because it is tearing us all apart.

"We all want to drive this club forward, but let's get this bleeding deal done."

The statement posted on Northampton's Facebook page came from an unidentified person or persons with access to post there on behalf of the club.

It said : "D avid Cardoza, please stop playing with our club, the supporters, the sponsors, the livelihoods of the players and staff, our families, a much loved community asset and almost 120 years of history.

"Sell the club and do it now. No more waiting to see where we are on Monday, no more meetings, no more delays, no more talks.

"Every day you delay, every day you stall, every day you seek more talks hurts the club and everyone who loves Northampton Town Football Club.

"There is no time and we have all endured enough. You say you want to do the right deal for the club, so please, please do that and do it now.

"This must be a huge pressure on you, do the right thing now and release that weight from your shoulders. Please allow the club to move into new ownership, the best ownership for the future of the club, and do it now."?
