Lee is in temporary charge following Gary Johnson's exit on Monday and, having pinpointed Northampton's backline as a problem area, is set to snap up 19-year-old Farah as his first signing.
"We need to tighten up a bit at the back and in football you have to work on your deficiencies," said Lee after taking the reins.
The former Chelsea player will be given his chance to impress in the job as Town chairman David Cardoza has 'nobody in mind' for the role at present.
He told the official club website: "We will take our time as we generally do but if the right person is available then we will take it.
"I don't know what route we are going to go down but we will have a good look at it and see who's out there.
"If the right person turns up tomorrow then we will make the appointment tomorrow but we don't rush into appointments, we just know what we are looking for."
