Boothroyd ponders defender deal

Aidy Boothroyd may make a loan move after seeing David Artell ruled out for around three months

The 31-year-old summer signing has an achilles tendon injury and joins a number of defenders on the sidelines, although John Johnson and Danny East may be back soon.

"The chairman has been brilliant. It's very rare a chairman comes to you and says 'do you want any players?'" Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton when asked about a possible signing.

"I'll have to give it some serious thought and we may well need to bring an extra defender in.

With Johnson and East slowly coming back to full fitness however, Boothroyd added that a new signing may upset the balance of the changing room.

"I still want to keep [the squad] tight."
