Boothroyd looks for boost against former club

Northampton are in Johnstone's Paint Trophy action against Colchester United this Tuesday

Successive defeats at the hands of Gillingham and Bristol Rovers have put a negative spin on what had been a solid start to the season by the Cobblers and they may see the cup tie at Sixfields as a welcome chance to get back to winning ways.

Colchester though will provide a tough test after showing improved form under new manager Joe Dunne.

The 39-year-old Irishman stepped up to the top job after 10 years on the U's coaching staff, including when Boothroyd took over from Paul Lambert as boss in 2009.

"I have worked with many managers and many players and accumulated my style and my way of doing things," he said after succeeding John Ward in charge.
