Boost For Football League Clubs As Loans Stay

FIFA has granted an extension to the emergency loan system

The system allowing loan signings outside of the two transfer window periods, which operates in the Football League and non-league in England, was due to be scrapped at the end of the current season but a one year extension has been granted.

"It is encouraging news and I'm sure Football League clubs will welcome Fifa's decision to extend the existing loan arrangements for a further 12 months," said Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey."

Northampton manager Aidy Boothroyd has taken the opportunity to sign loan players on a number of occasions this season after the closure of the August transfer window and it could be argued that the men he has brought in have kept him in a job and helped begin the process of turning the Cobblers' season around.
