Michael Jacobs' departure from Sixfields leaves Aidy Boothroyd with money to spend in the transfer market

A deal was agreed with Derby County on Tuesday for the 20-year-old midfielder with a compensation fee thrashed out between the two clubs that will prevent Jacobs' move having to go to a tribunal.

Chairman David Cardoza, having received what he felt was a 'fair price' for the player, is now hopeful that Boothroyd can add to his early summer moves for Clive Platt and Alex Nicholls.

A replacement for Jacobs is obviously now on the agenda while the Cobblers boss will also be keen to strengthen his defence with the likes of Clarke Carlisle and Blair Adams having departed from the side which helped keep Town in the Football League at the end of last season.
