Town were unlucky not to have taken all three points from an entertaining contest played in front of a crowd of 4,046.
Striker Luke Norris matched his Brentford teammate Stuart Dallas in making a goalscoring debut after a loan move but Aidy Boothroyd's future may have been up for discussion had Ian Morris not then equalised two goals in three minutes from the visitors which sent them at half-time in front.
That was reminiscent of last weekend's game at Oxford but the Cobblers fought back well and had the majority of chances.
