All To Play For At Vale Park

Port Vale and Northampton meet in a big League Two clash at the weekend

The Valiants know that a win will secure them promotion while the Cobblers can make sure of their place in the play-offs while at the same time putting pressure on Burton Albion and Rotherham above them.

6,000 tickets had been sold as of Tuesday and Port Vale number two Mark Grew told The Sentinel: "It's going to be a carnival atmosphere, but we've got to get the lads switched on, get some hard work done and prepare in the right manner.

"We don't want people to think it's just going to happen because we are at home."

Town ended a worrying run of defeats at Wycombe on Tuesday night with a display that pleased manager Aidy Boothroyd.

"We’re not giving up on anything," he said, "but what we are going to do is try and cement our place in the play-offs come Saturday, and that in itself is an achievement for us.

"If we can get anything at Port Vale I’ll be delighted, but we will go out try and win it because we are still chasing third."
