Aidy Hails Stoke signing As Port Vale Downed

Louis Moult has been challenged to make the most of his chance at Sixfields

The striker was one of a few gambles taken by Aidy Boothroyd in the summer transfer market and, with an injury crisis added to by Alex Nicholls' broken leg, showed his quality as the Cobblers shrugged off successive defeats to brush aside Port Vale.

"Louis Moult is from Stoke and he would have enjoyed that," said Boothroyd after the visitors from the Potteries were put to the sword.

"He is a goalscorer, he was a child star who lost his way a little bit.

"We have given him an opportunity and took his goal very, very well. He’s got a real chance."

One or two results this season have looked as though they would provide Northampton with a springboard to put together a consecutive run of wins.

So far they have proved false dawns but, considering the amount of players watching on from the sidelines, Saturday's Sixfields crowd will have gone home thinking that a push for the play-off places is surely on its way.
