2010: Anfield win the clear Cobblers highlight

A never to be forgotten night at the home of the mighty Liverpool "I'm in the car park at Anfield, drenched in rain, preparing to drive back home and I'll have a good dance in the car. "I think this has got to be the greatest night in our history." Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza summed it up for many Cobblers fans when he spoke to BBC Radio Five Live after an unbelievable evening on Merseyside. Ian Sampson's side more than matched their illustrious Premier League opponents over 120 minutes, so much so that the manager admitted afterwards: "I was disappointed it went to penalties because I felt we deserved to win in normal time. "But the players who stepped up deserve tremendous credit and they showed real character to take a penalty in front of The Kop." Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson shuffled his squad around for the match but was magnimous enough to admit: "When you've got a squad with players who have come here for big money, this was a chance for them to show they're great players - unfortunately, and full credit to Northampton, we weren't good enough to beat them."
