"Interesting, that title. Kagawa has always played on the left for the national team, and he played on the right for Borussia Dortmund. When first signed by ManU, everyone in the UK press (well, apart from a rare few who actually know what theyre talking about) assumed that he was going to replace Park, on the wing. It was only after seeing what he can do in the middle that they changed their tune and started to talk about him as either a central midfielder or a shadow-man in the hole. So where do you get the "shunted" from? Kagawa never played that spot for Japan. Honda became a core NT selection before Kagawa did, so Kagawa has always been used on the left. Even your quote "supposedly" indicating that Kagawa would prefer to play in the center is inaccurate, because that wasnt the intention of his comment. When seen in its full context he was just saying that he failed to drift inside as much as he usually does. It was more a self-criticism of his lack of mobility (and perhaps match fitness) than a complaint about positioning. In case you missed it, football is a team sport, and in the Japan NT Kagawa fits best on the left, where he and Nagatomo can exchange short passes and overlaps, to break down the opposing right flank. He also is valuable there as cover when Nagatomo charges into the box. The team concept for Japan in attacking midfield is very flexible, with Honda going wide quite frequently, and Kagawa or Okazaki dribbling across the middle. The most important reason why Zach still uses Yasuhito Endo in deep midfield (despite the fact that he clearly is past his prime and starting to become a liability) is that the three forward players switch off so frequently, so you need a player with the intelligence and instincts to balance the formation. Neither Hosogai nor Takahashi have yet developed this positional skill as well as Endo. But the more important reason why Kagawa cant play in the middle is that he isn't strong enough to stand in the post, with his back to goal, and hold the ball up for a runner. Honda has the size and power to do this. Kagawa doesn't. If Japan ever manages to develop a good striker who has post-up skills (perhaps Mike Havenaar), you might see changes in the alignment of Honda, Kagawa and Okazaki in midfield. But neither Maeda nor Lee is effective in the post. THAT is why Kagawa plays out wide - not because Honda has "taken over his spot"."

"Hmmm 6-1 loss.. the banner must of shook them up a bit. Its alright though, Japan rocks! They'll be able to shake off this unsportsmanlike display from the Koreans. I'm sure they'll come back with an earth-shattering performance next time."
