Zamparini eyes Amauri stay

Zamparini eyes Amauri stay

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has signalled his intent to try and keep star striker Amauri at the club past the end of the current campaign.

The 27-year-old Brazilian-born frontman had seemed set to exit the Stadio Barbera this summer after Zamparini put a price-tag of 25million euros on his head, but the Palermo chief appears to have had a change of heart.

He commented: "After his two goals against Genoa on Saturday, I've convinced myself that Amauri will stay on for next season.

"I will refuse all offers for him. He will be our starting block in the reconstruction of this Palermo team."

With the likes of Internazionale, AC Milan, Juventus and Villarreal all linked with Amauri, Zamperini had stated earlier this month: "A Spanish side offered 22million euros, but I refused.

"For less than 25million euros we will do nothing, but I think an agreement could be close."

Amauri joined Palermo in the summer of 2006 from Chievo, having also played in Italy for Napoli, Piacenza and Messina.
