As Jamie Sherwood outlined the reasons for optimism about the future, a hazy north east sun suddenly seemed a little brighter.A couple of minutes earlier and a few yards away, Melanie Copeland, Sherwood’s Sunderland counterpart, had also stopped to reflect.
