A midfield player who joined Tottenham Hotspur during the January 2011 transfer window. A winger who can operate on either side of the park, he is most effective on the left. Steven is a creative player with a powerful long-range shot and can provide a telling defence-splitting pass. Steven began his career with Ajax Cape Town, moving to the parent club Ajax and then Borussia Dortmund before arriving at Everton. He began 2010-11 at Goodison playing regularly for the Toffees before his move to White Hart Lane. Steven made a number of appearances for Spurs in both the Premier League and Champions? League in the second half of the campaign but was out through injury in the opening weeks of 2011-12. He returned to the team in November when he played in the Europa League but it was January before he saw action in the Barclays Premier League. After two brief appearances as a substitute he returned to Everton on long-term loan and rejoined the Toffees on a permanent deal in the summer. Chosen as the SAFA Player of the Year for 2009, he made his debut for South Africa in 2002 and has now won over 50 caps, captaining the team in a number of games.
