Rafik Halliche is a central defender who joined Fulham in August 2010 after featuring for Algeria in the World Cup finals earlier in the summer. Signed as additional cover following the long-term injury to Philippe Senderos, Rafik had something of a frustrating time at Craven Cottage during 2010-11 when he was unable to break the stranglehold of Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes on the central defensive positions. He managed just two appearances as a substitute during the season, both in January and in the summer of 2011 he joined Premier League newcomers Swansea City in a loan arrangement covering the first half of the season. Rafik began his career in Algeria as a teenager with NA Hussein Dey before moving on to Benfica, but he spent his time in Portugal out on loan to CD Nacional of Madeira. He won his first cap for Algeria against Senegal in May 2008.
