Matt Taylor is a centre back who has captained Exeter City during their rise from the Conference into League One. Matt has made a remarkable conversion from goalkeeper to defender having gained an FA Trophy winners medal with Burscough in 2003 while playing between the sticks. He had a brief trial with Lincoln City as a goalkeeper and although he played outfield in student football Matt only fully converted to centre back in 2006 when he signed for Team Bath. The following season he followed manager Paul Tisdale to Exeter and he has since made close on 150 Football League appearances for the club. Matt is a consistent performer and was the Exeter City Player of the Season for 2007-08 and 2009-10. Although he was sidelined by injury early on in the 2010-11 campaign, he returned to take his place in the side once more when fully fit.
