Ashley M Westwood is a vastly experienced centre back who returned to play for Crewe Alexandra early in 2011. Ashley began 2010-11 with Kettering Town but was released by the Conference club in January. He began training with Crewe the following month before signing in March as defensive cover. Ashley went on to make a handful of appearances for Alex in the closing weeks of the season. He began his career as a trainee at Manchester United but was unable to break into the first team at Old Trafford and moved on to join Crewe in 1995. Ashley made over 100 senior appearances in three seasons at Gresty Road before signing for Bradford City. He later played for a number of clubs including Sheffield Wednesday, Northampton, Port Vale and Wrexham.
