Pogba has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Despite knuckling down and being praised for his professionalism since admitting in June would be open to a ‘new challenge’, the player is increasingly the subject of gossip once more owing to his contract situation.
Pogba has just 18 months left to run on his current Old Trafford deal. And while United can trigger an option to extend it to 2022, there are ongoing doubts as to whether he will sign a new one.
According to the Daily Mail, Pogba still wants to leave and United will allow that to be possible by chasing two new midfielders before the start of next season.
The report claims that there has been no contact between the club and Pogba’s representatives since United’s ‘tentative approach’ over a new contract was dismissed during the summer.
It is further alleged that even though United still publicly insist that Pogba is not for sale, they will now facilitate his exit by pursuing two new midfielders, which is set to be a transfer priority alongside landing Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland.
A number of options are said to be on the table, including Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and Ajax’s Donny van de Beek, although the latter remains heavily linked with Real Madrid.
90min revealed in October that United are eyeing Genk and Norway starlet Sander Berge, a player who has been increasingly linked with Liverpool in recent weeks.
90min also told you just this week that United retain their longstanding interest in Tottenham star Christian Eriksen, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
United would move for the Dane, whose price tag has previously been reported to just £40m, in January if he gives indication that he is interested in the move, having not done so in the past.
But Eriksen is also keeping his options open in the expectation that he will soon receive offers from most of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
