Man Utd Target Erling Håland Has '€20m Release Clause' - RB Leipzig Don't Have First Dibs

05 December 2019 17:06

The Erling Håland transfer saga rolls on, with reports emerging that claim the Norwegian could be available for as little as €20m in January.

The 20-year-old has been in world-class form this season for Red Bull Salzburg, netting 27 goals in just 20 games.

This has included a remarkable eight strikes in just five Champions League appearances, with Håland becoming the first teenager to score in five consecutive games in the competition.

Unsurprisingly, his ridiculous goal exploits have led to the striker being tracked by a host of top European clubs.

Manchester United have been scouting the striker - along with some 14 other Premier League clubs - and Håland is a player familiar to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from his time in charge of Molde.

However, reports emerged last month stating that RB Leipzig had first refusal on a €30m release clause in the player's contract, claims that have now been strongly refuted in an article published by Bild (via Sport Witness).

The German publication alleges that the release clause is in Håland's current contract is actually only €20m and not specific to sister club Leipzig.

If true, the news will excite the host of clubs chasing the 20-year-old superstar in the making.

Even if Håland does have his choice of destination in January, he may still opt to sign for Julian Nagelsmann's Leipzig side, with reports claiming that the centre-forward wants to join a 'stepping stone' team before moving to the Premier League.

United will be hopeful of hijacking any deal, mainly due to Solskjaer's existing relationship with the player, though reports also claim that ArsenalLiverpool and Real Madrid are admirers of the striker.
