Liverpool, Tottenham & Leicester Stars on November Shortlist for Premier League Player of the Month

06 December 2019 12:25

The nominations for November's Premier League player of the month are in, as Liverpool's Sadio Mané joins Tottenham duo Dele Alli and Heung-min Son and Leicester pair Jamie Vardy and Caglar Soyuncu on the seven-player shortlist for the award.

November was an eventful month in England's top-flight, with José Mourinho's return to the division with Spurs, following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, dominating the headlines.

The Portuguese boss has enjoyed successive league wins in his opening two games, but it was an undefeated month over the piece, with Alli and Son leading the way.

South Korean Son netted two goals and registered another four assists across his four appearances in November, directly contributing to a goal in every game last month.

Alli, meanwhile, has come back into his best form after a difficult start to the season, and after scoring the equaliser against Everton to kick the month off, the appointment of Mourinho has seen him take on an integral role, as his creative masterclass against West Ham and two-goal showing against Bournemouth inspired Spurs to two important wins.

But while it was an impressive month for Tottenham, so too was it for Leicester, who join them on two nominations. Three straight wins last month saw the Foxes keep up their unlikely title challenge, with Vardy scoring in each, taking him to 12 league goals before the start of December.

Soyuncu, meanwhile, has stepped into the void vacated by Harry Maguire and ensured his side haven't missed a step, and kept clean sheets in the wins over Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Brighton - three huge showings from the Turkish defender.

Three goals and an assist for Liverpool's Mané, including a decisive header against Manchester City, ensured Liverpool registered four November wins to stretch their lead at the top. He joins Wolves' Raúl Jimenez and Sheffield United's Lys Mousset - who proved to be the scourge of Manchester United in that 3-3 draw at Bramall Lane - in rounding out the shortlist.
