Inter Assume Pole Position in Race for Man Utd Youngster Tahith Chong

Inter appear to be leading Juventus in the race to sign Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong, after the player's agent met with the Serie A club to discuss a potential transfer.

The 20-year-old showed significant promise last season, starring for United's Under 23s and earning a handful of first team appearances.

Chong has failed to push on this season, though, making just seven appearances for the senior side - the majority of which have been cameo appearances from the bench.

Chong's contract expires in the summer and the Dutchman has been attracting interest from a number of European clubs, despite United's continued confidence in tying him down to a longer deal.

"The club hasn’t given up hope. Tahith knows how highly we rate him," a source close to the club told The Sun earlier in the month.

Inter are currently in pole position to secure the wide forward's signature, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club met with the player's agent on Tuesday to discuss a potential move.

It is understood that Chong has been offered to the Nerazzurri in an attempt by United to avoid losing him on a free transfer this summer. Juventus are also said to be eyeing up the youngster and are planning to offer a lucrative deal to prise him away from Old Trafford.

I Bianconeri are willing to offer Chong a £35k-per-week deal if he decides to run down his remaining six months at United, as well as a £2m signing on fee if he chooses to link up with Maurizio Sarri.

Chong is the third Premier League player that Inter have been strongly linked with during the January transfer window. Olivier Giroud is expected to sign for the club imminently, while Antonio Conte's pursuit of Christian Eriksen has also been well publicised - though the two club's have reached an impasse in recent days.
