They badly missed Richarlison and lacked a killer instinct and ruthlessness in attack. “We weren’t good enough to win the match. They had three or four clear chances, they scored three. We had four or five, we scored one. We could have taken a different result.” 6.05pm BST Mark Noble, the West Ham skipper, and goalscorer Marko Arnautovic speak. Noble says: “We spoke openly after the Wolves game with each other. We said some home truths. That’s what sometimes you need. The three points are a massive, massive boost for us.” Arnautovic, who is nursing a knee injury of sorts, adds: “Everybody did an unbelievable job. Congrats to Yarmolenko for his first two goals. Hopefully he can score a few more.” 5.54pm BST Happy 65th birthday, Manuel Pellegrini! Andriy Yarmolenko set the tone with two neat first-half goals before Marko Arnautovic, a menace all afternoon, sealed victory after Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled a goal back just before the interval. West Ham have their first league win and, with that, they’re out of the relegation zone. 5.52pm BST 90+4 min: And now Bernard is booked for dragging down Robert Snodgrass. West Ham are almost there. 5.50pm BST 90+2 min: The home areas of Goodison Park are slowly emptying. Everton have just not been good enough in both boxes, but a clinical cutting edge has really eluded them. Cenk Tosun was poor and Oumar Niasse, who has just headed over from a free-kick, has not fared much better. Plenty of food for thought for Marco Silva. 5.48pm BST 90 min: There will be five added minutes. 5.48pm BST 89 min: Brilliant again by Anderson. He steals the ball from Kenny, the Everton full-back whose confidence looks shot. Anderson storms forward, playing in Antonio who strikes at goal. It’s powerful but Holgate gets a block in. Everton really have been bullied at times. 5.46pm BST 87 min: Anderson does well again, running down the left before drifting inside. Snodgrass then takes over, buying a corner out of a glum-looking Digne. 5.44pm BST 85 min: A series of harmonious Ole’s from the visiting fans, believe it or not. West Ham are heading for their first away win in the league since May, at Leicester City. 5.43pm BST 84 min: Niasse rattles the bar! Lucas Digne delivers a sweet ball from the left, but the unmarked Everton striker’s volley is always rising and it smacks the woodwork. If he could have kept it down, it surely would have beaten Lukasz Fabianski. Moments before, Everton had made inroads down the right, with Rice diving in to make an instinctive interception with Niasse lurking. 5.40pm BST 82 min: Yarmolenko, who has faded a little after a stunning first half, is replaced by Snodgrass. 5.39pm BST 80 min: Defensively, Everton look very frail. There are shades of their vulnerability under Ronald Koeman and David Unsworth at the start of last season. Holgate has just gifted the ball away to West Ham, but Everton get off lightly. On the bench, Robert Snodgrass looks ready to come on for the visitors. 5.37pm BST 79 min: Everton just about win a corner out of Carlos Sanchez. Sigurdsson swings it in, but nobody can force it goalwards. Instead, back come West Ham through Felipe Anderson. It’s a brilliant mazy run down the left that has Kenny back-pedalling. West Ham get a corner themselves, but Zouma heads clear. 5.35pm BST 77 min: A hopeful pass downfield by Holgate in search of Oumar Niasse is met by a sea of sighs. 5.34pm BST 76 min: ... Sigurdsson wellies it straight into the wall, with the ball smacking Yarmolenko in the face. For Everton, Ademola Lookman is on in place of Walcott. Can the young winger do anything to find a leveller? 5.33pm BST 75 min: Walcott flies forward at speed, drifting inside and Declan Rice takes a yellow card on the chin after fouling the Everton winger. Sigurdsson stands over it about 25 yards from goal. It’s pretty central ... 5.31pm BST 72 min: Lucas Pérez looks pretty miffed on the touchline. In contrast, as Marko Arnautovic basks in the glory from the bench, a stat: since the start of 2018, only Mohamed Salah (23) has had a hand in more Premier League goals than Arnautovic (16). 5.29pm BST 70 min: Niasse gets into a decent area on the edge of the box, but fails to find Calvert-Lewin in space. This is descending into very painful viewing. Meanwhile, a change for West Ham: Sanchez replaces Noble. On the bench, there seems to be a bit of squabble between Lucas Perez and a West Ham coach, with the former having reportedly refused to have warmed up ... 5.26pm BST 69 min: Tosun’s replaced by Oumar Niasse. Tosun’s not had a great afternoon, but nevertheless it’s a straight swap as opposed to partnering the Turkey striker. Maybe Calvert-Lewin will play further forward. 5.26pm BST 68 min: Gueye with a clumsy foul on halfway. West Ham will lap that up, as they regain possession. 5.25pm BST 66 min: Tosun misses! Calvert-Lewin speeds into the box on the counter and, though Everton get fortunate with the ricochet cannoning into the path of Tosun, he has to do better. He swivels, but drives harmlessly over. He looks like a striker low on confidence; Tosun’s not scored for his club since April. 5.22pm BST 64 min: Manuel Pellegrini opts to tweak personnel, with Arnautovic withdrawn. Michail Antonio’s on. The former had gone down a few moments ago, so presumably Arnautovic picked up a niggle. Anyway, his work is done; he’s been a real nuisance. 5.19pm BST A brilliant give-and-go with Pedro Obiang allows Arnautovic to poke home beyond Pickford. A priceless goal for West Ham, just as Everton seemed to be grinding through the gears in search of an equaliser. And Arnautovic gets a deserved goal; Everton have not been able to live with him all afternoon. 5.18pm BST 60 min: Sigurdsson clatters into Zabaleta, just as Everton were upping the ante, pumping balls into the box and driving forward in droves. West Ham could do with slowing the game down a little. 5.16pm BST 57 min: West Ham have a chance to break but Noble doesn’t have the legs to accelerate away from a mob of Everton defenders. Masuaku had done well in the buildup, prompting a counterattack after a healthy spell of pressure from the hosts. 5.14pm BST 55 min: Loud appeals from the Gwladys Street end for a penalty, but nothing’s doing. Obiang nudged Sigurdsson out of the way in the box, but any such penalty would have been a travesty. 5.12pm BST 53 min: Another crude challenge, this time by Zabaleta, sees another yellow card awarded. From the free-kick, Gueye pings a pass over the top of the West Ham backline and, as it bounces beyond Yarmolenko, it almost meets Digne – but the defender’s caught cold. 5.10pm BST 52 min: And now Gueye with a pesky foul, stupidly dragging back at Anderson’s shirt as the West Ham forward runs infield. The resulting corner causes a little panic, but nothing more. Pickford gobbles it up. 5.09pm BST 51 min: Yarmolenko is bit a keen in the challenge after Bernard nicked the ball away from him. He tugs at the Brazilian’s shirt and is booked for his efforts. 5.08pm BST 50 min: West Ham work it nicely, but Obiang fires over! Declan Rice sticks his foot on the ball, spreading a delicious ball wide for Anderson to take over. The winger darts inside, sliding in Obiang but his effort his high and wide. West Ham look to go again ... 5.07pm BST 47 min: Everton raid their way down West Ham’s left once more, with Calvert-Lewin and Kenny combining. Winning the battle against Masuaku and Zabaleta, on either flank, has been key to exposing the visitors. 5.03pm BST 46 min: West Ham kick this second half off. And it begins reminiscent of how the first finished, with Kenny sending a troubling cross in from the right for Walcott. 4.52pm BST Elsewhere in the Premier League: Related: Raul Jiménez strike earns Wolves victory and adds to Burnley’s woes 4.49pm BST Andriy Yarmolenko’s double gave Manuel Pellegrini’s side a deserved lead, but Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled a goal back for Everton on the brink of the interval. Until then, Marco Silva’s side had only flattered to deceive. They badly need to get Cenk Tosun firing, while they must find a way of hushing Marko Arnautovic’s involvement. We’re in for a juicy second half. 4.48pm BST Sigurdsson heads home a brilliant ball in by Jonjoe Kenny. Everton switched play nicely, via Bernard and Gueye. And, out of practically nothing, Everton have a lifeline! Can they build on it? 4.46pm BST 45 min: There will be two minutes added time. 4.44pm BST 44 min: An early change by Everton; Schneiderlin is replaced by Bernard. Marco Silva, clearly, noted something had to change for his team. 4.44pm BST 43 min: Anderson’s trickery earns West Ham a free-kick themselves, with Kenny fouling the Brazilian. Yarmolenko whips it in from the left but Pickford gathers comfortably. 4.41pm BST 40 min: It’s low and hard by Digne, but no problem for Fabianski. Back come Everton, as Marco Silva seems to be frantically trying to devise a Plan B on the touchline. 4.41pm BST 39 min: Masuaku is booked for a clumsy challenge on Walcott. Everton want to rip his head off for it. It is a high foot, but nothing more, it’s not malicious. Everton earn a free-kick just on the edge of the box, with Sigurdsson set to deliver it in from the right. 4.38pm BST 37 min: And now Fabianski denies Tosun, with the Everton striker bearing down on goal before striking at the West Ham goalkeeper. The defenders backed off Tosun, but while his effort was powerful, he never looked like finding the net. 4.37pm BST 36 min: Walcott almost catches out Fabianski! He attempts to sidefoot a volleyed pass into the danger area, but it – a little fortuitously – ends up troubling the West Ham goalkeeper. Fabianski reacts, tipping it over. 4.35pm BST 34 min: The ball almost drops for Calvert-Lewin in the box, but Fabianski scoops it up. Meanwhile, a couple of quick stats: Everton have not won any of their last 10 Premier League games when conceding the first goal, and Yarmolenko is the first Ukrainian to score in the Premier League since Andriy Voronin in May 2008 .. 4.31pm BST A magical second by Yarmolenko, who doubles his tally and his side’s lead. Pickford’s pass out from the back is poor and, a little sloppy defending later, Everton are punished and trail by two. Yarmolenko cuts inside, allowed to drift on to his left foot, with the winger bending an effort into the far corner beyond Pickford. This is turning out to be quite the full league debut for the Ukraine international. 4.31pm BST 29 min: Arnautovic is almost in for a moment, but Pickford is quick off his line. Obiang seizes possession after a sloppy pass by Schneiderlin and, with the outside of his boot, he plays in the West Ham forward. But just as Arnatovic looks to meet it, there’s Pickford. 4.29pm BST 28 min: Yarmolenko does well, blocking off the passage for Digne to again prosper down Everton’s left. In midfield, Declan Rice seems to be tracking Gylfi Sigurdsson’s almost every move. And he’s doing a good job so far of keeping him quiet. 4.27pm BST 25 min: Digne delves down the West Ham right, easily beating a half-hearted Yarmolenko, before swinging in a beautiful ball for Tosun – but the Everton striker heads it straight at Fabianski. The Poland goalkeeper almost makes a mess of it, but eventually gathers. Tosun did the hard part, escaping his marker, but his effort was straight at Fabianski, in truth. 4.25pm BST 24 min: Walcott attempts to speed away from a sea of blue shirts, but West Ham regain the ball. A couple of silky touches from Yarmolenko and then Arnautovic free Gueye, but his second touch is a little heavy. Plenty of promising signs for Pellegrini. 4.24pm BST 22 min: Zabaleta picks the ball up in space just inside the Everton half and West Ham accelerate it into the box all too easily. The full-back plays a simple pass into Arnautovic, who has Holgate for company. The striker comfortably screens the ball from the Everton defender but it bounces unkindly. 4.22pm BST 20 min: Gueye gets the ball on halfway, has a look up and looks to chip the ball into Tosun. But the striker is on a different wavelength and Balbeuna gladly gobbles the ball up. Noble then trides forward in search of Arnautovic, but West Ham can’t make it stick. 4.20pm BST 19 min: Goodison Park groans at the sight of West Ham slowly affirming their grip on this game. 4.19pm BST 18 min: Everton are frustrated. Calvert-Lewin picks up a yellow card for a tug at Noble’s shirt, allowing the visitors another chance to get the ball in but it’s wasted. But back come West Ham, with Rice and Noble intent on kickstarting another move. 4.17pm BST 17 min: It was a decent, quick ball into the box from the right and while Issa Diop reaches it, he cannot get enough power on the ball to beat Jordan Pickford. That goal has really stirred West Ham. 4.16pm BST 16 min: Everton are rattled, and now West Ham have a free-kick 30-odd yards from goal. Anderson will whip it in ... 4.16pm BST 15 min: After Noble attempts to dink a cute ball into the box, Masuaku robs the ball off Walcott. He takes a touch before fizzing in an inviting cross. Nobody’s sure where it is in the Everton defence, but West Ham cannot prosper, Arnautovic glued to Zouma. 4.14pm BST 13 min: Everton look a little startled. They had settled far quicker, but a simple, slick move worryingly cut right through the middle of their defence. Marco Silva, unsurprisingly, looks absolutely seething. 4.11pm BST Against the run of play, West Ham take the lead! Andriy Yarmolenko, on his first Premier League start, sidefoots home after unselfish work by Arnautovic. The latter played a neat give-and-go with Obiang and, just like that, West Ham were in. Arnautovic broke through the heart of the Everton defence, before sliding the ball across, allowing Yarmolenko to do the rest. 4.10pm BST 8 min: Everton seem to be growing in confidence, and this all seems a bit familiar territory for West Ham of late. A smart ball over the top of Zabaleta frees Calvert-Lewin, but Fabianski rushes out to claim it. 4.08pm BST 7 min: Obiang thinks he has snuffed out Walcott, who does well to combine with Jonjoe Kenny down the right but the winger evades his man, cutting the ball back inside. West Ham, however, clear their lines. Plenty of encouragement for the hosts. 4.07pm BST 5 min: Anderson breaks away from Schneiderlin, before passing over the baton to Arnautovic. They look to have an overload on down the right, but Everton get back in shape. Just as West Ham look to build once more, Noble overhits a painful pass to Zabaleta. 4.06pm BST 4 min: Everton pen West Ham in, with Digne again the profiteer of some early possession. Pablo Zabaleta, a longtime lieutenant of Manuel Pellegrini, already seems to have his hands full. 4.04pm BST 3 min: Felipe Anderson, after collecting the ball from Masuaku, buys a throw-in out of Gueye down the left. West Ham fail to do anything with it, though. 4.02pm BST 2 min: Lucas Digne has a go from distance and that’s that. The Everton full-back bombs forward but blazes wide! 4.02pm BST 1 min: Everton furrow down the right early on, with Mason Holgate driving forward in possession. He wins an early throw, with Kenny then teeing up Walcott to shoot at goal. But West Ham get a block in. 4.01pm BST Everton get us under way at Goodison Park. 3.57pm BST The teams are out of the tunnel at Goodison Park, amid the usual backdrop of Z Cars. We have to plan with the players we have that are fit for the match. “We made a good start, but we could have taken more points as well. Our last game wasn’t the best performance, but the attitude was right. We have to play a little bit faster and create more chances to score. 3.42pm BST What happens to Pellegrini if West Ham lose this one? Surely he won’t be sacked. Surely. Surely?How do you interpret making six changes to the team? A winless, pointless and pretty worthless start to the season for a team that splashed out almost £100m on nine new signings this summer. Another defeat would usher in their worst ever start to a season. “Does the spending add pressure? No, no. We believe if you don’t spend the money, you cannot grow,” the manager Manuel Pellegrini said. “They have to perform as a team.” There are remnants of the David Moyes era and the fingerprints of Slaven Bilic, with the squad very much a mishmash of managers. Establishing something that resembles a team remains their biggest challenge and issue. At present, it feels a bit slapdash, with a much-changed back line just as unconvincing. None of Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and co have exactly covered themselves in glory. In many ways, though, it is a problem that has troubled Everton too, a club still finding their feet under Marco Silva. Yet, they have made a decent start and slipping up on home soil against an out-of-sorts West Ham would renew a little nervous energy around Goodison Park.
