Deadline Day AS IT HAPPENED: Chelsea Sign Drinkwater & Zappacosta, Tottenham Snatch Llorente & More

01 September 2017 02:33

Transfer Deadline Day, as it happened! Late signings galore, drama, intrigue, a player search, and...well, all the rest of it.

Chris Deeley here to take you all the way through until the early hours of Friday morning, after Scott Saunders spent the last six hours smashing out the day's early deals ALL OVER HERE, and the massive middle portion - Kylian Mbappe and all - HERE

03:45 - SO LONG, GOODNIGHT

Right, we're done here. It's been a hectic day, although maybe more a day of deals that didn't happen - Sanchez, Lemar, Van Dijk, Draxler, Barkley - than those which did.

The biggies? Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool, Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea, Fernando Llorente and Serge Aurier to Spurs, Renato Sanches to Swansea and Mamadou Sakho (back) to Crystal Palace.

Adrien Silva is expected to still be announced as a Leicester signing, but at this point who knows.

Remember me not as the man who couldn't last until the Foxes announced Silva - remember me instead as the man who liveblogged for 12 hours straight until the wee small hours for you, the people.

Fare thee all well. I leave you with this.

03:33 - RECORD BREAKER

On my second deadline day at 90min, I stayed up past 3am to wrap up the Radamel Falcao to Manchester United deal. This is now comfortably my longest deadline day at 19 straight hours with nose to grindstone - if it doesn't happen soon, I'm going to shut this down for a couple of hours and update youse all when I log back on at 8.

03:20 - SILVA TO LEICESTER

They really aren't going to announce it tonight, are they? That begs the question - is this just wilful stubbornness on their part, or have they dropped a massive clanger and let Danny Drinkwater go without properly securing his replacement? Nampalys Mendy's gone away on loan too, that's a light midfield...

03:05 - BREAKING: 90MIN LOSE KEY MAN ON DEADLINE DAY

Yeah, Scott's gone to bed. And then there were two. And those two are me and Adrien Silva. And that little bastard will not beat me. Not tonight. This is the long haul.

02:46 - WISHFUL THINKING

If only, lads...

02:27 - SILVA TO LEICESTER

The only major deal we're still expecting to go through tonight is Adrien Silva to Leicester for £22m. The only problem is that our two editors on duty - myself and Scott Saunders - have been on shift since 8:30 this morning. That's 18 hours straight, if you're counting; and about 7-8,000 words each. Plus video appearances. We're flagging, is the point.

It's getting desperate.

02:10 - SAKHO TO PALACE DETAILS

It's a four-year deal for the Frenchman at Selhurst, and he told the club's website: “I am really happy to be here because I have some friends here. I loved the challenge last year; it was difficult but beautiful and it’s why this summer I thought that Palace was the best choice.

“I am really excited about playing for the Palace fans again, but in football the past is the past and you need to think about today and tomorrow. Last year we did a good job and we need to prove that again and have a good objective. If we put all of our power together, we will have a great season.”

02:00 - DONE DEAL

ONLY ONE TO GO! Mamadou Sakho has finally completed his £26m move to Crystal Palace from Liverpool.

For the record, I was also on the liveblog at 01:06 on Deadline Day in January when the Eagles signed him on loan. I'm beginning to get a little resentful. Contract details coming when Palace release them!

02:00 - DONE DEAL

I mean, I missed a Barnet signing in the dark earlier. It's National League South record-setter Dave Tarpey, who turned down Coventry last week. His 35 goals last season were the most ever in the division, and he's got four in a game already in this campaign. Finisher.

01:55 - THE WAITING GAME SUCKS

Hungry Hungry Hippos, anyone? It's all gone very quiet again...

01:33 - DRINKWATER SIGNS 5-YEAR CHELSEA DEAL

Well that was relatively quick and painless. A five-year deal for the new Chelsea man, and a crap hashtag.

01:31 - DONE DEAL

Good god, how good does that feel to write? Leicester City have confirmed that they have an agreement in place with Chelsea to sell the Blues midfielder Danny Drinkwater. The fee received by the Foxes is a club record - more, then, than the £32m they got from Roman Abramovich and co just 12 months ago for N'Golo Kante.

Contract length, Chelsea confirmation and likely Adrien Silva confirmation when we have them.

01:25 - SILVA TO LEICESTER

Has he signed? We don't know. Will he sign? We don't know. Was he at least at Leicester's training ground? We can now say...yes.

01:15 - NIASSE TO PALACE OFF

That's definitely that one chalked off then. Drinkwater, Silva, Sakho all left...

01:07 - THE WAITING GAME SUCKS

Look, it is what it is at this point. We're playing the waiting game. But, and dropping this in a liveblog is making me look up at my late, great friend Dan Lucas...

00:48 - NIASSE TO PALACE OFF

Not even the most exciting potential late move involving Crystal Palace but - I'll level with you all - I really like Oumar Niasse. This would be a shame.

00:47 - JANSSEN TO BRIGHTON UPDATE

This is one of the main deals keeping us up this evening...but it may all be for nought. Massive blow for Brighton if so.

00:35 - DEALS OFF

So, I wrote a big long list before I left the office on Wednesday evening. Players to watch over the next 30-odd hours.

The ones who went through? Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool), Juan Foyth (Spurs), Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Grzegorz Krychowiak (WBA), Divock Origi (Wolfsburg).

The one which still might? Danny Drinkwater (Chelsea), Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid).

The ones which haven't? Alexis Sanchez, Riyad Mahrez, Thomas Lemar, Virgil van Dijk, Philippe Coutinho, Jonny Evans, Moussa Sissoko, Ross Barkley, Demarai Gray, Fabian Delph.

What I'm saying here is...for all the talk, it's been a quiet one!

00:20 - STILL WAITING

I dunno. We're in a bit of a void at the moment. Listen to the Menzingers instead.

00:03 - ............

HARRY. STOP IT.

00:00 - DONE DEAL

Over on the other side of the Atlantic, Liga MX side Atlas FC have signed Ravel Morrison! Yes, that one.

23:53 - DONE DEAL

One more for the Championship - Wolves have brought in Senegal international Alfred N’Diaye on a season-long loan from Villarreal. Classy player.

23:50 - DONE DEAL

Remember when Hull basically came into last season without a squad? Well, they've at least brought some players in this summer.

Meet number 12: Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori, a 19-year-old centre-back who joins on loan for the season.

23:45 - DONE DEAL

It's Callum McManaman. And that'd better bloody be it, Sunderland.

23:43 - DONE DEAL

Sunderland have signed Jonny Williams from Crystal Palace on loan. And there's another one coming...

23:35 - BEHIND THE CURTAIN

Troopz arrived at 90min Towers about 45 minutes ago, and he's barely stopped shouting for more than three consecutive seconds. He's now locked in the (soundproofed) studio.

23:31 - STRIKER TO BRIGHTON

Brighton are on the verge of signing a striker...but who?

They've got an extension until 1am, Paul Hayward says it 'has to be' for a goalscorer - they've scored 0 goals in three games - and it could very, very well be Tottenham's Vincent Janssen...

23:20 - DONE DEALS

Swansea have officially confirmed the (re-)signing of Wilfried Bony from Manchester City on a two-year deal! Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Davide Zappacosta from Torino on a four-year deal! Sunderland have signed Marc Wilson from Bournemouth on a one-year deal!

23:15 - DONE DEAL

It's official! The latest of late swoops - Spurs steal Fernando Llorente from right under Chelsea's noses after joining the race for the Blues' long-term forward target just yesterday.

That's a two-year deal to run until 2019. But wait, there's more...

23:13 - DONE DEAL

Signing picture on Instagram! Wilfried Bony is back at Swansea - and his caption reads: "THANK YOU TO THE FANS OF @mancity & @stokecity YOUR SUPPORT HAS HELPED ME THE LAST FEW YEARS. EXCITED TO BE BACK HOME WITH @swansofficial"

23:10 - SIX TO GO

Reckon one of these is Zappacosta, plus Drinkwater, Silva, Bony, Llorente and...a sixth? Mamadou Sakho?

23:03 - DONE DEAL

Torino have confirmed that they have 'definitively surrendered' Davide Zappacosta to Chelsea, in a deal thought to be worth £23m plus possible add-ons.

No Chelsea confirmation yet, but we'll bring you more details as soon as we get them.

23:00 - TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES

SLAM. BANG. THE TRANSFER WINDOW. IS. SHUT. THERE WILL BE NO MORE TRANSFERS IN TO BRITISH CLUBS.

Except Adrien Silva. And Danny Drinkwater. And Fernando Llorente. And Wilfried Bony. And...and...and...

This is going to be a late one, huh?

22:57 - DONE DEAL

Sheffield Wednesday have done a loan signing. It is this.

22:55 - DONE DEAL

Birmingham. Again. Again. Again. Again. Again. Maxime Colin is Harry Redknapp's new...friend? Victim? Lord knows. It's late.

22:52 - DONE DEAL

We've been talking about it all day, but here it is for good - Tim Krul has signed for Brighton on a season-long loan from Newcastle

22:46 - DONE DEAL

Leicester City have brought in Austria defender Aleksandar Dragović on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

No messing now - or 'no gaaaasssss', as some of the 90min video guys might say - one of the best signings of the summer. Maybe of the window.

22:37 - BREAKING: EVERTON OWNER REVEALS DETAILS OF BARKLEY DEAL BREAKDOWN

Speaking live to Jim White on Sky Sports News, Farhad Moshiri said: "The two clubs agreed a fee of £35m. Personal terms were agreed. We heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley's agent, that he decided to stay. He wants to reconsider during the January window.

Asked if Barkley would be part of the club's plans in the near future, he said: "Well, he is injured now. Technically he will be with us, because he is under contract for another year."

22:33 - BARKLEY TO CHELSEA

I give up.

22:21 - BARKLEY TO CHELSEA

...What more is there to say? MID-MEDICAL? Hahahahhaahahahahahhah

22:18 - ADRIEN SILVA TO LEICESTER

It's coming. It's really coming this time. Adrien Silva is at Leicester's training ground - with about 40 minutes left of the transfer window - and is on the verge of moving to the Foxes.

Then, of course, it's Drinkwater time...

22:15 - RIYAD MAHREZ MYSTERY

There's always one, isn't there? Riyad Mahrez has been 'spotted' in airports all around Europe today, the Algerian FA said he was good to go and get his transfer situation sorted out.

But now...

22:11 - NO GO-MES FOR SPURS

Looks as though Barcelona's thin, thin squad will not be taken apart any further! No Andre Gomes - but Fernando Llorente is still on his way...

22:08 - BONY TO SWANSEA

Speaking of which...

22:06 - DONE DEAL

Hellas Verona have signed Juventus' disgustingly young forward Moise Kean on a season-long loan - after earlier appearing to fail in a move for Wilfried Bony.

21:55 - DONE DEAL

What is it about club presidents/owners who tweet, eh?

Napoli head honcho Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed the arrival of 25-year-old Roberto Inglese from Chievo in a deal thought to be worth €12m - including €2m in add-ons.

21:50 - DRINKWATER TO CHELSEA

Literally! Physically! He's gone to Cobham!

This will be very closely linked to Adrien Silva's move to Leicester - with the Portugal manager confirming after their game against the Faroe Islands that Silva has left the squad to sort out a move...

21:46 - THOMAS LEMAR SPEAKS

It couldn't happen. Could it?

No.

But...

Could it?

21:43 - TOON TROUBLE

21:36 - DONE DEAL

Wahbi Khazri - he of 'scoring directly from a corner last season' fame - has gone on a season-long loan to Stade Rennais as Sunderland continue to offload a few of their higher-paid Premier League stars.

21:33 - DONE DEAL

Arsenal's king of loan deals Joel Campbell is back out on loan again. This time a season with Real Betis, who he spent a year playing for...back in 2012/13. On loan.

21:24 - WORLD CUPDATE

France are taking the Netherlands apart - doing bits, if you will - and Paul Pogba's just absolutely embarrassed Daley Blind in the box.

Meanwhile, PSG right-back Thomas Meunier has just scored a hat-trick against Gibraltar. And provided four assists. Calm night...

21:15 - THOMAS LEMAR

...has just scored an absolute screamer for France. €100m-worth, you might say.

21:08 - DONE DEAL

West Brom youngster Rekeem Harper has signed a new contract at the Hawthorns - a two year deal - and headed out on loan to Blackburn Rovers for the rest of the season.

Speaking to the club's website, he said: "I'm delighted. I've been here since I was 12 years old and I've always dreamed of signing a pro deal. It's a great feeling."

21:00 - DONE DEAL

Never dull for Alex Bruce on deadline day, is it? Released earlier today, he looks to have signed for Wigan on a one-year deal.

20:43 - LLORENTE TO SPURS

This one looks about as done as it's going to get. Expect an announcement in a few minutes after Spurs' Under-23 game against West Ham, maybe at 9pm sharp...

20:42 - LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Start as we finished, shall we?
