Danny Rose has admitted he knew Mauricio Pochettino's sacking spelled the end of his Tottenham career, as he admitted he will look out for their results even after his imminent permanent departure.
Rose made more than 200 appearances for Spurs under Pochettino and was their starting left-back until the club parted company with the Argentine in November. He fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho, however, and spent more time on the bench and out of the squad altogether than on the pitch under his new manager, eventually joining Newcastle on loan in January.
Officially he will return to Tottenham in the summer, but the 29-year-old doesn't look to have any part in Mourinho's plans and it seems very likely he will be on the move again come June. For all intents and purposes he is no longer a Spurs player, but that doesn't stop him wishing his former teammates all the best in their bid to secure European football.
“It's not the first time I have had a manager come in and not play me. It happens throughout your career.
“You just have to make sure you remain professional, you just try to be as positive as possible because it's not an individual game, it's a team game. It's probably something I saw coming as soon as Mauricio lost his job.
“I wish Jose the best of luck. I wish Tottenham the best of luck. I hope they get into the top four this season and do well in the FA Cup. Obviously, I will look out for their results.”
Tottenham lost to Chelsea on Saturday as they dropped into sixth place in the Premier League, and will look to get back on track when they face Wolves next weekend.
