“Promotion has got to be our target,” Novak told Charlton's Official Website.

“A club this size, we’ve got to be looking to get promoted and get back up the leagues to where the club belongs.

“I’m really hopeful that we can achieve that next season.

“Like every league, you need to get off to a good start and that is what we want to do here. We want a good start, a good team spirit and the belief that we can challenge for promotion.”

The 27-year-old who became Charlton's third signing of the summer, has played numerous times at the Valley is excited to pull the red and white and score crucial goals for the Addicks.

Novak said: “I’ve played there on a Tuesday night under the lights, on a Saturday afternoon and the atmosphere is always really good.

“It’s always been loud whenever I’ve played there for Huddersfield or Birmingham - the fans were brilliant for Charlton and it was a great stadium to play in.

“Now that my future is sorted, I’m buzzing. I’m looking forward to getting in for pre-season. I’m not looking forward to all of that running! But I can’t wait to meet all of my new teammates and get started."
