At the end of 2018, with Brighton 13th in the top flight and basking in the afterglow of a good 1-0 win over Everton, Chris Hughton warned they still couldn’t “afford to look upwards”. Perhaps he knew something, because the Seagulls have not won in the league since then and hover perilously above the relegation spots, with this fixture looking absolutely vital to get them going again.
