Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has revealed that he knew Harry Kane was a "truly special talent" from day one, but he insisted that the England international is also a poster boy for hard work paying off.

Kane broke through in north London while Friedel was taking his last few steps as a professional footballer, which was coupled with the infancy of his managerial career.

After loan spells at Leyton Orient, MillwallNorwich and Leicester CityKane was finally given a chance at Tottenham and he hasn't looked back since, going on to score 160 goals in 244 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Friedel, speaking exclusively to us-bookies.com, said: "We absolutely knew how good Kane was going to be, and it was noted many times in our staff meeting and our meetings when I was starting my coaching at Tottenham.

"As a player, each and every one of us knew that he was a truly special talent. He has proved that hard work does pay off, and he still works harder than everyone else out there, that’s why he is so good.

"On top of that, he obviously has the talent. He scored past me in training once or twice maybe, but they didn’t count as I was over 40!"
