Arsenal and Everton may well be in a race to appoint former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, after the Italian was sacked by Napoli on Tuesday night.
Despite leading his side to a 4-0 win over Genk in the Champions League, Ancelotti was relieved of his duties after the game, following a long-running feud with Gli Azzurri chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis.
After Napoli slumped to disappointing defeats to Red Bull Salzburg and Roma at the beginning of November De Laurentiis organised a punitive training camp for the team.
The players refused to attend, sparking a lengthy standoff in which the chairman imposed a media blackout and even explored the opportunity of fining the squad 25% of their wages. Ancelotti backed his players and this eventually led to his demise on Tuesday night.
The Telegraph are reporting that the Italian is Everton's first choice to take over from Marco Silva - who was sacked earlier this month after a 5-2 defeat to Liverpool.
The Toffees had previously seemed set on awarding the job to Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira. However, the 51-year-old put an end to that speculation yesterday by ruling himself out of contention.
The return of David Moyes in an interim capacity has also been reported, though for now it appears that caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson will continue to lead the team for the next few games.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton will face competition for Ancelotti's services from another Premier League club - Arsenal.
The Gunners are allegedly seeking 'formal talks' with the former Milan manager as they continue to search for Unai Emery's replacement.
The club have a 12-man shortlist for the role, with Brendan Rodgers - apparently Arsenal's first choice originally - recently being ruled out of the running by signing a new contract with Leicester City.
90min understands, however, that former club captains Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira remain the Gunners preferred choices to succeed interim boss Freddie Ljungberg.
