The World Cup finally kicks off in the Luzhniki Stadium at 4pm on Thursday afternoon, once they have managed to drag Robbie Williams off the opening ceremony stage.

32 countries, 736 players, 64 matches, 12 stadiums and only one trophy for the winning nation - welcome to Russia 2018.

The host nation are one of the outsiders to win the tournament, but familiar favourites Brazil will be looking to lift the trophy for the sixth time. Hosts Germany are looking good too, as are France, Belgium and Argentina.

What about England's chances? Gareth Southgate's youthful squad may well struggle yet again. With the nation's hopes and dreams on their shoulders it is unlikely they will reach the quarter-finals, but you never know.

For the next four weeks we will be treated to some great football from some of the greatest players from around the world. It's sure to be an exciting event.

The World Cup is here!
