Jeffers set for Exiles bow

Newport are set to hand Shaun Jeffers a home debut when they welcome Fleetwood to Rodney Parade on Friday night.

The former Peterborough striker arrived at the Exiles as part of the deal which took Conor Washington to the League One outfit and having made his first start in the 0-0 draw at Southend Jeffers is ready for his home bow.

Byron Anthony played his first game since a double leg break in August in a development side win at former club Bristol Rovers in midweek but this match looks likely to have come too soon for the defender.

Striker Aaron O'Connor, yet to play this season, looks set for another few weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a hernia operation.

Jamille Matt and Alex Marrow could be included in Fleetwood's squad.

Striker Matt, who has scored seven times in 15 games, has been out since October but boss Graham Alexander described him as being in the "latter stages" of his long recovery.

On-loan midfielder Marrow, meanwhile, has been missing with a hamstring injury and illness with Alexander adding he is taking his fitness on a day-by-day basis.

One player who the Cod Army will be definitely be without is midfielder Jeff Hughes, who may not play again this year after breaking his leg against Hartlepool at Highbury.
