New boss Warren Feeney to assess Newport squad ahead of Blackburn visit

New Newport boss Warren Feeney will hope to add an FA Cup shock against Blackburn to his CV after launching his reign with a victory.

Feeney, who replaced John Sheridan as manager of the Sky Bet League Two club last week, got off to the perfect start when County won 1-0 at York in his first game at the helm on Saturday.

Twenty-year-old Chelsea keeper Mitchell Beeney, who only met his new team-mates a few hours before kick-off after signing a one-month loan deal, was one of the heroes of Saturday's win as he replaced Joe Day, who was unavailable for personal reasons.

Yan Klukowski was used as a 30th-minute substitute on his return from a hamstring injury, but fellow midfielder Alex Rodman and striker Lenell John-Lewis both missed out with similar problems.

Rovers boss Paul Lambert will make late checks on defender Matt Kilgallon and striker Chris Brown after both men played the full 90 minutes in Saturday's 1-0 Championship defeat by Brighton.

Central defender Kilgallon was a doubt for the game - his first since October - because of a hip problem, but with Shane Duffy facing several weeks on the sidelines with a groin injury, Lambert will not want to take any unnecessary risks.

Brown was named man of the match in what was his first league start of the season, and he will be assessed before the Scot names his team.

Midfielder Danny Guthrie could return to the squad after the hamstring injury which has kept him out of the last three games as Blackburn attempt to end a six-match run without a victory.
