Dean Bowditch spares MK Dons' blushes with brace

A 90th-minute goal from Dean Bowditch completed an impressive comeback for MK Dons as they beat Sky Bet League Two Newport 3-2 in the EFL Cup at Rodney Parade.

Newport had led for an hour after goals from Marlon Jackson and Mark Randall, but a brace from Bowditch either side of Ben Tilney's equaliser was enough to send the League One outfit through.

Dons manager Karl Robinson made 11 changes but his youthful side were made to work for their place in the second round.

Jackson opened the scoring from close range in the 31st minute after the home side had spurned a host of chances.

Former Dons midfielder Randall scored a penalty after George Williams handled Jazzi Barnum-Bobb's cross in the area.

Substitute Bowditch pulled a goal back from the penalty spot seconds after entering the action after he had been brought down by Ben Tozer, before Tilney swiftly levelled with a left-foot drive just seven minutes later.

Extra-time beckoned until Bowditch curled in the winner from the edge of the box.
