Ollie Watkins piles on the misery for Newport with hat-trick in Exeter victory

Ollie Watkins' hat-trick fired Exeter City to a 4-1 triumph at Newport County.

The 21-year-old scored either side of half-time and right at the death after David Wheeler made sure of their fourth win in six matches

Sean Ring grabbed a consolation, but Newport remain rock-bottom of Sky Bet League Two.

Mark Randall gave the ball away during six minutes of added time at the end of the first-half to set Exeter on the counter-attack. Liam McAlinden charged down the left wing and delivered a cross to Watkins, who headed past Joe Day to make it 1-0 at half-time.

McAlinden got in behind Abdoulaye Meite again and squared the ball to Watkins, who fired home to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after 47 minutes.

Wheeler converted Jake Taylor's cross from close range six minutes later, before Rigg headed a consolation goal after 82 minutes.

But there was still time for Watkins' to bag his third in the 95th minute after Day left his goal wide open and the striker beat him to the ball.
