Crucial win for County

Aaron O'Connor scored his eighth league goal of the season to give Newport a 1-0 win over fellow play-off hopefuls Luton.

His first-half strike secured the Exiles' first win at Rodney Parade since January 10 and moved them level on points with seventh-placed Stevenage in the battle for a play-off spot.

Newport made a lively start and defender Ryan Jackson forced Luton goalkeeper Elliot Justham into an early save. Jackson then turned provider for the game's only goal after 22 minutes when his long throw was flicked on by Lee Minshull and O'Connor guided the ball into the top corner of the net.

The hosts should have doubled their lead shortly afterwards but Yan Klukowski wasted a free header from eight yards out.

On-loan West Ham midfielder Elliot Lee struck the post for Luton five minutes into the second half before being denied by an excellent save from County keeper Joe Day.

Luke Wilkinson hit the post for a second time for the visitors with a firm header but Jimmy Dack's side held on for a crucial win.
