Redshaw sees off frustrated Exiles

Newport promotion dream looks dead in the water after Morecambe held out for a 1-0 victory at Rodney Parade.

Jack Redshaw converted the Shrimps' only clear-cut chance after nine minutes, and they held out to claim just their second win in five matches.

The damaging defeat leaves the managerless Exiles outside the play off places after Plymouth and Bury both scored wins.

Newport were caught cold in the opening exchanges when Redshaw pounced on a defensive lapse to put the Shrimps 1-0 up.

The busy striker latched onto a lofted ball that Darren Jones failed to head clear, and stroked a smart left-footed finish past Joe Day.

County caretaker manager Jimmy Dack introduced winger Robbie Willmott at half-time after a dour first-half showing.

His decision looked to have paid off when Shaun Jeffers flicked a Willmott cross past goalkeeper Andreas Arestidou, but the goal was disallowed after the striker was adjudged to be offside.

Striker Chris Zebroski sparked some life into fixture, but Morecambe reverted to time wasting tactics to see out the game.
