Viduka hopes to keep place

Mark Viduka is hoping to figure in Alan Shearer's plans for Newcastle's clash with Fulham on Saturday. The Australian striker put in a commanding display during the Magpies' crucial 3-1 win over local rivals Middlesbrough on Monday and is keen to be given another opportunity to prove his worth. The burly frontman has endured an injury-hit 2008/09 campaign and has been forced to watch on helplessly from the sidelines as Newcastle's Premier League status has come under threat. However, he is back in the fold now and is hoping the St James' Park support can carry Newcastle to another success on home soil this weekend. "For me personally, I have been through some tough times injury-wise, but I really don't want this club to go down and I will do everything I can to keep us up," Viduka told the club's official website. "The crowd (against Boro) was magnificent. They got behind us and they spurred us on and stuck with us when we went behind early on." Massive gameViduka is confident Newcastle can build on their confidence-boosting victory over Boro when the Cottagers arrive on Tyneside, while he will be looking to put his recent problems behind him and notch his first goal of the season. "I hope I keep my place and can play as well again," he added. "Monday night was one of those things where we just needed to get that win under our belt, and I hope we go into Fulham with a little bit less pressure on ourselves. "It's another massive game but we're all confident after the Boro win."
