Toon Fans Be Warned - Debuchy Is Not Going To Change The World!

Alan Pardew's banking on Mathieu Debuchy to help shore up Newcastle United's defence ... but don't get TOO carried away.

We have lost a striker who has a better goal-scoring record than Toon legend Alan Shearer - and gained a right-back.

Think about it.

No disrespect to Debuchy, who is a fabulous player, but no right-back in world football influences a game the way a striker can.

He's a great piece of the jigsaw, and a full-back who can actually DEFEND!

Can James Perch or Davide Santon?

Perch doesn't have the pace to be a full-back or strength to be a central defender.

Yes he looks decent in midfield - but NOT in defence.

Santon looks great going forward, but every team in the Premiership target him as a defender, because he CANNOT defend.

He gifted Everton the winning goal last night.

Alan Pardew: “That’s probably going to come down to a medical.

“If he passes that, that deal will get done.

“He will add to us – he’s exactly what we want. He’s got experience and real quality, trust me.

“He’ll bring some real quality to the back four, which we need.

“I think the issue for him is that he wants to progress his French international career.

“We’re a good platform for that. Perhaps not at the moment, where we are, but certainly in a couple of months time.

“We need to add players to the squad, and we need players back.

“I’ve got a treatment room full of players, and it’s costing us dearly.

“Having said that, we were up against Man United, Arsenal and Everton.

“We’re going to come up against lesser opposition than that, and we need to make that pay now, we really do.

“I can’t really complain that Everton have won here – I thought they were a good side.”

BETTER RECORD THAN SHEARER

OK, he's a greedy 'so and so', and has as much loyalty as a swamp rat - but we have just lost a striker with a better 'goal-per-game' ratio than the GOALden Boy - Alan Shearer!

Let's look at the top ten strikers who have graced St James' Park in the last decade, and Ba tops the lot of them.

                         Appearances-Goals1 Demba Ba 1.9 (56-29)2 Alan Shearer 2.0 (303-148)3 Andy Carroll 2.5 (80-31)4 Michael Owen 2.7 (71-26)5 Craig Bellamy 2.9 (128-43)6 Oba Martins 3.1 (88-28)7 Patrick Kluivert 4.1 (25-6)8 Leon Best 4.2 (42-10)9 Shola Ameobi 5.4 (277-51)9 Mark Viduka 5.4 (38-7)

Andy Carroll moves into third place, but despite his young age - most of his goals were scored in the Championship.

As for Michael Owen, he makes it into fourth place, but 26 goals in four seasons? For God's sake!

He signed for Newcastle on 24 August 2005, and left for Old Trafford on On 3 July 2009 - that's 6.5 goals a season!
