Toon Face Fine For Pitch Invasion

Newcastle United could be fined by the Football Association after they promised to launch an investigation into the crowd trouble that marred the friendly at Darlington. Disciplinary action is now looming as officials within the game’s governing body pledged to contact the St James’ Park club. Newcastle could be hit with a heavy fine for failing to control their supporters at the Darlington Arena on Friday night when hundreds of fans spilled on to the pitch and pockets of violence broke out, causing the game to be held up for ten minutes following a goal early in the second half by Sammy Ameobi during the visitors’ 2-0 win. FA spokesman: “We will be contacting both clubs involved. “We will wait until Monday to speak to both clubs and the relevant authorities to gather all the information and evidence on what happened and go from there and so until then we can not do anything.” Darlington will hand over CCTV footage of the incident to the police. Alan Pardew: “The pitch invasion was totally unacceptable and has brought shame on everyone connected with Newcastle United. “We witnessed some truly appalling behaviour which damages the reputation of this great club and the vast majority of our true and law-abiding supporters. “The club will now be taking the strongest possible action against those individuals responsible and that can’t happen soon enough.” VIEW THE INVASION: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yWM__kgvwg
