Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor is set to sign a new contract following an intervention in the long-running saga by club owner Mike Ashley.
The 22-year-old centre-half has been in talks over extending his deal for the last 12 months with fears that the protracted nature of the discussions may lead to his departure from St James' Park.
However, the Tyneside-raised former England Under-21 international is now set to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Taylor has just 12 months remaining on his existing contract and had been linked with moves to the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
"Knowing the owner wants me to stay means a lot to me," he revealed.
"Everyone knows I love this club and want to commit my future here, but the deal has to be right for me and the club.
"I am happy there has been some progress and I hope everything is sorted out soon.
"It's all in the hands of my agent and I can't really say any more."
