Shearer Joins Greyhound Syndicate

Alan Shearer is the latest soccer celebrity to become involved in greyhound ownership as part of a ten-man syndicate with Newcastle trainer Harry Williams.

Shearer has a share in Shearers Diamond, who was known as Pennys Messi in Ireland.

Williams: “We got the dog from a good friend of mine, Eugene Price, and he looks to have plenty of potential.

“He took a while to settle in and I’ve done very little with him during the grotty weather.

"He’s due to have his second trial at Newcastle on Wednesday over 480m and against Hadrians Wall – who is another dog I think a lot of."

With regards to having Shearer in the kennel as an owner, Williams added: “Of course it can only be good for the sport to have such people advocating the pleasure of ownership.

“I’ve known Alan for some time, having been involved in horseracing syndicates with him and Terry McDermott among others.

"He’s a very nice guy and is one of ten members of the Diamond Lads syndicate, which is named after a certain north-east watering hole that the lads have been known to frequent!”

Liverpool want Hatem Ben Arfa in any deal that will see Andy Carroll rejoin Newcastle in the summer.

Let's be honest - both players are injury prone and not the sort of pair you can build a team around.

The French international has missed much of the season through injury but over his time at the Magpies he has convinced Reds boss Brendan Rodgers enough to take him to Anfield according to the Daily Mail.

Although the winger did not put in a transfer request during the January transfer window, he has made a lot of noise in recent weeks saying his ambition is to return to France.

Liverpool is NOT France, but let's not forget David Ginola's plea to Kevin Keegan back in 1997/8 when he said he was desperate to return to France because he was home sick ... and ended up in London at White Hart Lane!

Ben Arfa's affiliation with Newcastle is is not as committed as we thought and he has stated a desire to play for the rich, Qatari-backed club Paris Saint-Germain.

Carroll has been on loan at West Ham after the £35million signing found it hard to make a mark at Anfield, and would walk over broken glass to return to Tyneside.

He has scored twice in 12 appearances for the Hammers so far, the latest coming on Saturday when he headed the winner against Swansea having returned the side following a two-month injury lay-off.
