Shearer drops permanent hint

Interim Newcastle manager Alan Shearer says he is enjoying his current role at the club, fuelling speculation that he may retain the job beyond the end of the season. The Magpies gave their chances of survival an enormous boost on Monday with a 3-1 victory over fellow strugglers Middlesbrough at St James' Park. On Saturday, Shearer's side face another home clash with Fulham and can virtually assure their safety if they are victorious and Hull are beaten by Bolton. When asked if he was sad to be missing out on his television commitments to manage Newcastle, he had a simple answer. "No, I'm not missing it at all," Shearer said. Enjoyment"I am thoroughly enjoying this. I have said every week that, despite not winning, I have enjoyed it. "But you enjoy it a hell of a lot more when the results go your way, like Monday against Middlesbrough. Now I will be looking for that again. "I have not had any free time at all in the past few weeks, but I didn't expect any. I have no complaints and have enjoyed it - if we continue to get results, I will enjoy it even more." At the moment, Joe Kinnear is scheduled to return to the helm after he has recovered from heart surgery but players such as Steven Taylor and Kevin Nolan have recently hailed Shearer's transformation of the club with Nolan stating he wants to see the 38-year-old continue as manager. Shearer also confirmed that there has been no change to the Joey Barton situation at a pre-match press-conference on Friday. It is thought that Newcastle will welcome offers for the 26-year-old midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.
