    Sam finally gets his men

    01 Sep 2007 - 08:32:36

Newcastle United landed the defensive boost they had been seeking by snapping up Bolton Wanderers' Abdoulaye Faye and Marseille's Habib Beye on deadline day.

The pair move to St James' Park for undisclosed fees, with both Faye and Beye penning three-year contracts with the Magpies.

Twenty-nine-year-old Senegal international Faye is well known to Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce from their time together at Bolton Wanderers.

Faye joined the Trotters in the summer of 2005 from Racing Club Lens and went on to score seven times in 72 outings for Bolton, operating mainly at the heart of the defence, but also as a defensive midfielder.

Faye's compatriot, Beye, had been a target for Allardyce during his time at Bolton and he has now finally got his man.

The 29-year-old has been a key figure in Marseille's return to prominence in French football, helping the club to finish second in Ligue 1 last season.

He moved to the Stade Velodrome in the summer of 2003 from Strasbourg and quickly became a regular starter, mainly on the right side of defence.
