Sam ends Taylor exit talk
09 Jan 2008 - 13:13:33
Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce has warned any clubs interested in signing Steven Taylor that the highly-rated defender is not for sale.
Taylor, 21, has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent days, but Allardyce is adamant the former Magpies trainee will not be leaving St James' Park.
The England Under-21 international has made over 100 appearances since breaking into the first team during the 2003/04 campaign.
"While they say everybody has got his price, I can tell them that Steven Taylor is not for sale," Allardyce told the Newcastle Chronicle.
However, Allardyce has suggested he could be willing to allow some fringe members of his squad to leave during the transfer window.
He told the club's official website: "I do not want to lose any players really, but I'm in the same boat as everyone else.
"If a large enough offer is made for one of my fringe players, and we can use the money to strengthen the side, we will look at it.
"It all depends on how much is offered and who else is available.
"I certainly do not want to lose anyone and not replace them - we do not have a big enough squad to do that.
"It would have to be a sizeable offer to tempt me."
