Roeder won't sell Taylor

Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder insists Steven Taylor will not be sold following weekend reports suggesting the highly-rated defender is a summer target for Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has produced a string of impressive displays as the Magpies have moved into a safe mid-table position in the Premiership and continued their fine run in the UEFA Cup.

"No club has spoken to us about Steven Taylor and if they did they'd be wasting their time," said Roeder.

"We're trying to build a squad, not dismantle one, and youngsters like Taylor and (Charles) N'Zogbia are the future.

"There's no chance of Taylor leaving this club while I'm manager."

Taylor has made 77 appearances for United since making his debut in the Premiership defeat at Bolton Wanderers almost three years ago.
