Roeder earns Owen backing
28 Feb 2007 - 08:06:39
Injured Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has backed manager Glenn Roeder to continue his positive transformation of the club during the summer transfer window.
Roeder has been in the St James' Park hot-seat for 12 months and has overseen an upturn in fortunes despite seeing his squad ravaged by injury.
Owen is the highest profile absentee after damaging his knee ligaments during last summer's World Cup Finals, but has been impressed by Roeder's judgement so far in the transfer market.
"This has been Glenn Roeder's first full season and he's had time to assess his squad," Owen told the Newcastle Chronicle.
"I'd have thought you'll see his stamp on the team next season.
"I've been impressed with a lot of the lads he already has in the squad but hopefully he'll bring in more players in the summer.
"It'll be interesting because it'll be down to his team but I have to say in the year he's been in charge Glenn has done well given the circumstances.
"We've had a good season to be where we are with all of the injuries we've had."
