Ramage accepts injury blow
10 Sep 2007 - 13:36:06
Newcastle United defender Peter Ramage expects to miss the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury sustained in the 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough.
The 23-year-old full-back suffered torn cruciate knee ligaments at The Riverside last month and doesn't expect to be ready to return until next season.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "I knew something was wrong straight away when my knee buckled. I felt my shin go one way and my thigh go the other.
"It was pretty painful. I've never done anything to my knee before, so I didn't know what I'd done.
"It wasn't until I went for a scan that I knew the extent of the injury. They didn't let me put any weight on my knee until then.
"I'm going to miss the majority if not the whole of the season and I've prepared myself for that.
"My target is to be back playing before everyone goes off on holiday, so come next season I'm fit and ready.
"I hope to play a game or be back playing, but I don't want to risk any more damage, so I won't rush things."
