August 2007 saw the signing of one of Europe’s most experienced players. Brazilian born Cacapa was the captain five years in a row at Lyon, a spell in which saw the French side win the Ligue 1 Championship every season. His signing looked to be a positive one as an experienced defender is exactly what the Magpies needed. A run of injuries, however, has seen Cacapa in and out of the squad.
Coming on as a substitute against Aston Villa on August 18, 2008, Cacapa became the 1000th player to pull on a Newcastle United jersey.
