Parker issues fan apology
09 Nov 2006 - 11:18:03
Skipper Scott Parker has apologised to the Newcastle United fans after he made a gesture towards them during last weekend's defeat by Sheffield United.
The England international was seen applauding sarcastically after the St James' Park faithful rounded on the under-performing players who slipped to 19th in the Premiership table on the back of the 1-0 defeat.
"I know I shouldn't have done what I did at St James' Park and I can only apologise to our supporters," said Parker.
"It was all heat of the moment stuff, when the passion and the pressure both boil over.
"All I can say is that all the players want to win for these magnificent supporters.
"We know we were nowhere what we should have been against Sheffield United on Saturday and we didn't apply ourselves."
