Pardew - We Can Get Through To Semis!

Alan Pardew has called for patience from the Newcastle fans as they prepare to welcome Benfica to St James Park on Thursday.

The Magpies trail the Portuguese side 3-1 after the first leg in the Estadio da Luz, as goals from Rodrigo Moreno, Lima, Oscar Cardozo gave Jorge Jesus's side the advantage going into the second leg at St James' Park.

Alan Pardew: "We just need to get ourselves in a good position. If we can get a goal with 20 minutes to go, we can do it - that's the agenda for me.

"Our fans need to understand that if we go gung-ho looking for two quick goals, we are just going to get killed.

"We can beat them, I honestly believe that."

Only one team have beaten Benfica away from the Stadium Of Light this season ... in all competitions.

United have to beat the Portuguese champions by two goals (at least), and Benfica's only away defeat was 2-1 in Moscow.

They even held Barcelona 0-0 in the Nou Camp in the Champions League.
