Pardew - Goal Celebration Was Not Staged
Newcastle's performance at the Britannia Stadium was markedly better than that at Southampton, where they were beaten 2-0.
And the Newcastle boss said the goal celebration at Stoke was not staged - all the players wanted to congratulate Papiss Cisse.
Alan Pardew: “We can’t afford to get any help – we’ve got to help ourselves.
“We helped ourselves at Stoke with a more energised and disciplined performance.
“People were doing their jobs, rather than their jobs and somebody else’s, because that doesn’t work in the Premier League.
"You do your job. We almost got a great result.
“Without harping on, we have a treatment room full of great players.
“There’s not a lot of change that can be made to the team – we’re going from week to week. We really need support (from fans), and I’m sure they’ll give it to us.
"The players were applauded off the field at the Britannia Stadium.
“I felt that they got a lucky break for their first goal, and then it changed, which was unfortunate for us.
“You couldn’t fault the players’ efforts, and the fans at the end were magnificent. They clapped us off after a fourth defeat, and I can’t imagine many fans would do that.
“That buoyed us as well. We know we aren’t far away from a win, but we must, must maintain the energy and spirit we put into that game.
“It was emphasised when we scored and everyone celebrated, which wasn’t something we’d talked about.
“It was a natural reaction from the players because we really do want to get this run over with.”
